School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation (ISI) has the following characteristics:
(1) Interdisciplinary education. Teachers come from several 24 departments of the University, covering a wide range of specialties in the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Students have a balanced background in the arts and sciences.
(2) Courses are offered in English and bilingual English and Japanese, giving students a wide range of choices.
(3) All programs are designed for both international students and Japanese students to promote international exchange and the cultivation of creative abilities.
(4) One of the graduation requirements for students is to study or intern at an overseas exchange institution, and international students can intern in Japan.
Founded in 1911, Kyushu University is ranked the sixth highest institution of higher education in Japan (THE, 2023). Established in 2018, the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation (ISI) strives to cultivate a new breed of creative human resources by capitalizing on the strengths of Kyushu University, based on the concept of interdisciplinary collaboration between individuals from different backgrounds, and the development of visions and the creation of new things through the fusion of diverse perspectives and academic knowledge in an increasingly complex and diverse global society.
